Mission trip Count down

{7 days to go}

This time next week I'll be well on my way to my first official mission trip. I've done plenty of stuff with the outreach and evangelism committee in my church, but I've never had the opportunity to go on a full on trip till now. I'm not going anywhere like Capetown, South Africa or Nairobi, Kenya or even out of the country, I'm only going to West Virginia but location isn't so important when it comes to serving the Lord.

When a girlfriend of mine threw me the information about the trip and asked if I'd be interested, without a single hesitation, I said yes. And without her even asking me if I could go, my heart already said yes as well.

Next weekend from Friday to Sunday I'll be spending the weekend working with an organization called Samaritan's Feet washing hundreds of little feet and giving out love through pairs shoes. Here's a little bit of information about Samaritan's feet that I took from their website.

"Samaritan's Feet is an International ministry focused on bringing a life-changing message of hope to youths and children through sports and recreational adventures. We provide relief to hurting people displaced due to poverty, ravaged wars, and religious persecution. We demonstrate compassion by washing and equipping their feet with shoes, and touching their hearts with the love of God."

Besides washing feet and giving out shoes we'll be leading both a revival service and worship service with the church we're working with. I'm so excited about this trip, and I can't wait to go. I've always wanted to go on a mission trip, halfway around the world or just around the corner. It's always been a passion of mine, but one that I'm so limited with.

Once I have the chance to really travel, after traveling back to the Philippines first, the next thing on my agenda is to go on a mission trip abroad. I'd love to spend a few months a way from all that I know, a way from the comforts of my own home, a way from the comforts of my daily life and service the Lord by working with and ministering to those who have much less than I. Of course one day I'd love to travel for myself, "see the world" and stuff like that, but that can wait... I can wait. There are more urgent things in the world, much more important things than traveling for my enjoyment. I'm not sure I was made to be a missionary or anything like that but I do love serving the Lord. Lets see what the Lord has planned for me in the future...

Web Cam Party

Last night was quite exciting. Me and my sister decided to have a web cam party with a few of our friends. It started off with two of us, and by the end of the night we had four people in on the party. Ok... four may seem like a little number... but have you ever tried typing while viewing 3 other video feeds at the same time? It's gets pretty confusing. I was laughing on the floor when my friend Tyrone did his "clean dance" with a Tide bottle and an iron... later he wrapped himself up with toilet paper looking like one funky mummy. My girl Em-em feed us her dinner through the computer screen and the laughs went on for hours. My ate took over for most of the time as I went off to make my first sewing project in months. I made a pillow case and it turned out ok, but I can't wait to make more. I should really go and find my little red sewing machine that I got for my birthday last year. I think one of my friends has it hostage in her house somewhere. And if I can't find "rex" (my sewing machine), I think I will go out and get some yarn and find my crochet needles and knitting gear. It's getting cold out so it's time to bring out the scarfs and hats.

Maybe I'll go make my godson some booties.

Collection of the week {01}

Week01.

Each week I always happen to stumble over amazing art collections online. They vary from photoblogs, to design portfolios, photo collections, art blogs or even work done by whole design firms. So I've decided to share my findings here on my blog with a "collection of the week" blog that I will post once a week. Hopefully I can maintain consistency over a few weeks with my finding and hope that you enjoy my findings as much as I do.

This week was a tough one. It's the first week and I've found many collections and portfolios I really like over a span of a few weeks now. To choose where to begin and select which collection so share first is difficult. But for my sake I'll just start with the latest collection I fell upon.

I'm not so sure how I ended up on this collection of photos but this site really caught my eye and kept me coming back for more. I found this photoblog by a two girl named Stephanie Congdon Barnes and Maria (I don't know her last name). At first glance I didn't think much of their two photos on the main page. But once I read the tag line for the collection which read, "3191 a year of mornings", I was captivated. I thought that was a fun play of words and the photos, both simple and clean, supported the tag line and I wanted to both read more and see more.

The concept behind the collection is a compilation of two photos a day (both taken in the morning) but by two different bloggers who live 3191 miles away miles from each other. I thought this was such a clever and original idea and wanted to share it with you. Have fun checking out their mornings, and maybe you can share with the world what your morning look like.

Pretty baby

I have a permanent model. I've had one for months now.. but yesterday was the best day we had in awhile. I think these are the best shots I've taken of the "pretty baby"... as she calls herself... and I've taken a billion of her.

Little Mariah was going a million miles per hour yesterday and she was a comedian as well. As she does on most days, my sister took Mariah to the park, but yesterday she was pretty adventurous. This little girl, all 20 months of her, decided that she's try to concur all 4 playgrounds at the park... and then some. She was fearless and didn't think twice about the distance between her and the ground when she was on the "big kid" playground, and even tried climbing a chain ladder to get there. She was also extremely fast running across the little bridges and little tunnels. But there was one thing that took both me and my sister for a trip... this little girl wanted to play with the boys... she wanted to play football with them. Me and my sister are football girls ourselves... but little Mariah? OH no... she's way to young for that... and way to young for boys... but tell me why this little one loves getting attention from boys. Hmm.. we've got trouble. Hehe.

I've been playing around with both my camera and flickr so if you get the chance, here is the album of pictures for the park yesterday with our little baby model if you want to check it out.

Eggs for Breakfast

(Notice: Photos in this blog are a dramatization of last Saturday's surprise)
Early on Saturday morning I was surprised with a lovely little text from a friend of mine. We were both headed to a church calendar meeting later in the morning and we needed a guitar for praise and worship before the meeting so she txt me:

"Gud am. Wld u hve rum 4 ur guitr in the car?
If so, pls bring. Thnx. If not, let me knw. C ya."

I then replied back telling her that I'd be glad to bring my guitar, but I don't have a strap for it. In less then a minute she replied back saying,

"I hve a friend 4 u guitar!"

When I read the txt I wasn't quite sure that to make of it. I didn't know if I was understanding her text lingo correctly... but what I made out was,

"I have a friend for your guitar..."
(in response to my txt telling her that I didn't have a guitar strap, I assumed she was saying)
"..I'll have a guitar strap for your guitar"
(...or something like that)

Found out I was totally off. She brought me breakfast.

Mind you, it was inedible... but it breakfast none the less.
An egg.

Let me tell you a little bit about the significance to "the egg". At my church, in a typical Sunday worship service you would see that I am part of an all girls praise band. I'd be one of the girls singing in the front, but I'd be the one singing the alto harmony shaking her left hand perpetually on every other beat. That would be because I am the "egg shaker". Due to a lack of resources during the course of academic school year, both our drummer are away at school, I was appointed to be the percussion stand in. The egg I've been using has run it's course and it's taken all the abuse it could take so my ate jay brought me a new one. A better one.

I'm no crazy egg fanatic like one of my bestest friends, but
I do love eggs.

Testing...

I decided to out www.flickr.com with my pictures so I uploaded some I took this weekend at my friend's baby dedication. I'm not so sure how to work flickr yet so it's a work in progress for me. Please bear with me ... hope you enjoy the pictures...

Photos from the baby dedication are located in a set called Baby Dedication.

Here take my sweater

I love commercials that get me singing. All of last week I've had this song, a song I don't even know, stuck in my head. It was the song from Old Navy's latest sweater commercial.

The first time I saw this commercial I was instantly drawn to the song, even if only 29 seconds of if is heard on the commercial. So I set out on a mission to hear the rest of the actual track and find out who's song it was. Found out it's sung by an artist named Ingrid Michaelson

...And now I'm hooked. I love her sound.
