Debriefing: Mission trip {WV}

"I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,
because He considered me faithful, putting me in His ministry."
1 Timothy 1:12

Because I don't know where to even start, I'll begin at the end.

It was an absolute blessing to have spent my weekend sharing the love of God in Bradshaw West Virginia with this wonderful group of missionaries. I have to many words, and to blessings from this mission trip to share with you ... that it can not be contained in single one blog.

But for now I wanted to praise God for giving me the opportunity to work and serve with this wonderful ministry called Samaratan's feet . It was an absolutely humbling experience to share God's love through washing feet along side them and I pray that You continue to bless them and use this ministry to reach those in need of both Your love and salvation.

Excited

I can't wait for this weekend. It's been a long week and I'm so really to leave and serve God to the fullest. I honestly dont know all the details about this mission trip but knowing its God's work is enough for me. See you on the other side of this weekend. Till then ... God bless.

Freshman Fever

There are a few people in my life who constantly remind me of how old I am,
and one of those people would be my cousin Gina.

In my mind she's forever 4 years old, but in reality she's a beautiful fourteen year old and freshman in high school. This past weekend was a semi-big milestone for her because it was her first homecoming.

Of course both me and my sister had to be there to both document and assist my cousin for her first high school dance as well as help out her friend Allie.

It was quite a "girly" event.

Magazines, makeup, curling irons, lots of laughs and a bit of drama ...
{...highschool...}

The drama for the night was a wardrobe malfuntion.

My cousin's beautiful dress wouldn't zip up all the way and although Gina is soo far from "girly girl" ... she really liked this particular dress and didn't want to break it, rip it, or ruin it just so she could wear it that night, but she had no other choice. Eventually we did what they do at runway shows when something like this happens, we sewed her into that sukker and called it a night.

Both her and her friend looked lovely by the time we were done with the both of them, but because of the dress drama they were running a bit late and they were still headed to take pictures at another friend's house. Before they ran out the door I was able to snap a single shot of both them...
These girls are too silly but they looked darling for their first high school dance.

Miss it

I confess, yesterday I found myself youtube-ing for an hour or so looking for nothing in particular but what I did find was that I miss two things, Dancing, and my long hair. Here are two videos that lead me to that conclusion.

I guess the two go hand in hand for me because when I did dance I had super long hair to flip around. I don't think I could ever manage or even have the patience to maintain long hair any more (I absolutely love having short hair) but for the first time in a very long time I missed having my long hair.

But enough about hair, I honestly miss dance. It's all a bit bitter sweet when I see great choreo like these two videos, or even when I see my little cousin dancing. I love watching other people dance but seeing it makes me miss dance that much more. If I had the money or the time to dedicate to dance I would, I would in a heart beat... but I can't. For now I shall keep my unrequited love for dance ... unrequited. Haha.

El Pollo Loco

I remember the feeling I had sitting in my spanish two class my sophomore year of high school wondering, "So, when am I ever really going to use spanish? Seriously." That was a good four years ago.

Little did I know, what little spanish I did learn would eventually come in handy one day. Like today, Like this week. I stand corrected thinking that I'd never put my spanish skills into use. It did come into really good use when I was in high school and I'd always hang out with my latina friends, or go over to my friend Ana's house for authentic Mexican meals... but I haven't done that in awhile.

Now I babysit this little girl name Gabby who speaks "span-glish" according to her mom. But she speaks more spanish then english around me. I'm really rusty with conjugating verbs, and even simply nouns I've forgotten completely... but I'm trying. For now I shall I shall be "el pollo loco". Adios mi amigos.

Possibilities

there is the possibility of everything...."

Collection of the week {02}

This week was easy to choose a collection. I don't know why I didn't start out with this collection to begin with because since the first time my sister showed me Oh Joy! a couple of months ago, it's become my all time favorite studio. No matter how many design studios, collections, portfolios or blogs I find and fall in love with, I keep coming back to Oh joy!

Oh joy! was started by a designer named Joy Cho, a communications major (minor in printmaking and fibers) from Syracuse. Her studio is based out in Philadelphia and she does identities, prints and patterns, fashion advertising, and lastly wedding and events. Some of clients include Mattel, 7th on Sixth, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Vanity Fair, Express, Swell by Cynthia Rowley and Ilene Rosenzweig, Target, Polaroid, QVC, and Urban Outfitters.

Her designs are so light and fun, simplistic but funky. Above is a company identity designed by Oh Joy!.. darling isn't it? Her products are the kind I want to produce myself... one day. I've still got so much learning and growing to do as a designer, but for now I take loads of inspiration from studios like this. Hope you fall in love with Oh Joy! and enjoy her work as much as I do.
