Out of my way

" I go slightly out of my way to step on that crunchy leaf."

It's the title of a Facebook group I joined a really long time ago,
but it's true. The leaves are officially changing colors and some
are starting to fall. Who doesn't love that? A crunching sound
under my feet took me by surprise yesterday as I was walking,
but suddenly I knew what that familiar sound was. It's the
sound of fall.

Day 3

Continuation of my latest piece.

Kind words

I've been keeping in touch with a cousin I've never met before and the exchanging of words has been quite a blessing. To share a common interest for art is also a major plus, but what topped it all off was what he said to me.

"You have an retro-indie style to your designs,
and you portray a romantic feel
(not love, but more like Mary Shelley romantic)
in your photography...and I like it!!"
- S Diongzon

I think this is one of the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me about my work. It's the kind of thing that keeps me going, making me want to get better and better at my craft. For it to be said that I portray anyone, anyone in the known world, with my art is such an honor.

Yesterday's Field trip

Yesterday I went to the Farmers market ... twice.

The first time I went with my mom. Then I went a second time with my sister and a friend, who's daughter my sister and I babysit. I didn't mind going twice because lucky for us the market comes by every Wednesday in front of our house. It was small as usual and the same three vendors came bearing lots of fruits and veggies, and lastly sweets.

Tomatoes, peaches and apples...

We bought all three. $1.75 per pound.

Big Riggs had the most selection and come
by every week all the way from West Virginia.

Their jams, spreads and butters rock.

Apple picking.

Delicious*

Colorful veggies.

Tomatoes, peppers, and squash... what a colorful bunch.

Ever see purple peppers? They are so pretty.

Besides the nutritious stuff... there are also a not so nutritious vendor.
But they have some of the best homemade sweets to choose from.

Best cookie I've had in awhile.

Jetblue Contest

On our flight to California last month there was a contest going on. Jetblue and Google teamed up to do a photo contest. The contest rules were as follows: submit your best photo taken from a Jet blue flight, also it must be taken from the window.

I took plenty of pictures on both my flights, some of which I fully intended to submit but I completely forgot about the contest.
Today I looked up the contest and the work that was submitted. Some of the photos are incredible. There are about 50 photos to choose a top 10 from, and boy are some of these amazing.
Here are my four favorite submissions.

Work In Progress

It's about time to pull out my art box. It's been collecting dust in a corner, neglected and forgotten for a while now. I've been inspired by a lot of art my sister and I have been finding online on blogs, portfolios and websites. I was wanting to render a new piece on la computadora but since I don't have any software I can use I had to do it by hand.

It's a work in progress because I've decided to take my time with this piece, building up the colors and figure out where I'm trying to go with it.

Because it's still not finished, I've yet to come up with a tittle for it. Also I have no concrete story behind it yet so please bear with.

I took two different directions between day one and day two. I wasn't really going anywhere on day one. I was thinking of just making another one of my random collages with silly characters and random nonsense. On day two I wanted to take the random nonsense to another level, a more serious one. I normally don't do mixed media if it isn't required of me but after seeing a friend's sketchbook I wanted to try my hand at mixed media again. I also added text, which you can't clearly read but it'll all make sense when I finish...if I finish.

Thats all for now.

OH MY! I want...

Colbie Caillat has easily become one of my all time favorite artists, even way before her first and only record came out. Her sound is completely refreshing and original. Referring to an old blog of mine, Colbie is one of my "guitar heroes" and I've been waiting ever so patiently for her to do a show around my area.
What are the odds? I randomly visited her page today, because I haven't checked her site lately, and in her list of shows is a show on Nov 5th in DC. OH MY! I want to go soo bad. If I could ask for an advance on a birthday present or even a Christmas present, it's be to go to her show.
sigh....

[ goes off singing: wishing and hoping and thinking and praying....]

What Happened?

I forgot about this show called Related on the WB.
I really liked it but it stopped airing..what happened?

Speechless

I heart Happy Slip forever.

Tim Sale

I've been wondering, Who is the real Isaac Mendez?
I mean who does the artwork for Heroes?

Tim Sale. He's an amazing comic book artist.

Old Stuff

I was looking through some of my work from school and I realized I haven't shown my work to many people. I usually show people my artwork that I do for fun but not any of my finished products. Here are the only two I can seem to find right now.

I had to design a wine bottle label for this mock "Sailing Sprint" sponsored by Volvo. First I had to design the Logo then add in the typography, and lastly came the bottle label design. I also had designed and constructed the case for the bottle but I can't seem to find the image for it but I will post it soon. I would have to say that it is one of my best products so far because I spent the most time on it and the results were incredible.

These next three images are actually pages of a booklet I designed and constructed in my typography class. It's the most typography I had ever dealt with so it was a great learning experience. The booklet I designed was about the five classic type faces of typography which are Century, Helvetica, Bodoni, Gramond and Baskerville. I was only able to find images of the last three pages.

Image01. "Cacophony" which means a loud harsh or strident noise
loud confusing disagreeable sounds.
Image02. "Float" means to be in motion due to some air or water current
Image03 "Tintinnabulation" means The ringing or sounding of bells. A jingling or tinkling sound as if of bells.
More work to come.

Tonight. Need I say more?

Stupid for you

I really like this Marie Digby original song.
It's playful and too cute.

Proud

I'm quite impressed and proud of the graphic design industry in the Philippines. I've found a few studios and portfolios online that totally blew me away. I wish I could order some of their merchandise online but since I can't I'll just have to wait till I go to the PI or someone goes for me. Haha.

"Waiting for sunrise" by Erickson Enriquez

I love this design because not only is it quite girly,
but the girl looks so pinay. I love it.

Apparently I'm the last to know about Team Manila. But no matter,
their designs are too much fun. I think my favorite tee from their
site is their pink "Harana" tee. I like their guy's line the most.
It sucks that you can't order their stuff online yet.

Angpambansa.com is another Teammanila production.
They don't have much of a selection but each design that
they do have available is beautiful and unique.

Lastly these two links are other Philippines Based
design studios that I liked a lot. Go check them out

Got mail?

Strap those suckers down mami

I've had a really hard time looking for guitar straps that I really like but when I fell upon Ladybug's pretty little collection it was all worth while. One thing that really bothered me was not being able to find these kinds of straps till now. It's taken me forever to find just a handful, maybe I should solve my own problems and just make them myself. What do you think?

The first one is my favorite.

Autumn

It's getting cooler and cooler everyday now and the sun sets earlier and earlier. There's a crispness in the air and as every season has a scent, it smells like fall outside. The leaves haven't really changed colors yet but it definitely isn't summer anymore.

I absolutely love when the seasons change, much more than any specific season. The seasons were meant for change and I'd rather have all four seasons than year round sun. It makes you appreciate change.

"And even when the trees have just surrendered
To the harvest time
Forfeiting their leaves in late September
And sending us inside
Still I notice You when change begins
And I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been
and was to come You are autumn "

Thank you Lord for Autumn.

Lately I've been thinking so strangely...

About the clouds, and how they seem to slowly fade away.

One of my favorite subjects to shoot are clouds.
They make me happy and they're fun to watch.
